Dominance describes the market; it does not forecast it. Live figures are CoinGecko’s global market data, provided by CoinGecko; other sites count a different set of coins. For Bitcoin’s own market cap, use the Bitcoin Market Cap Calculator.
Dominance is Bitcoin’s market cap as a share of the market cap of every coin together.
Short answers on Bitcoin dominance.
Bitcoin’s share of the value of all crypto. Divide Bitcoin’s market cap by the market cap of every coin together. If Bitcoin is worth ₹180 lakh crore and all crypto ₹300 lakh crore, dominance is 60%, and the other coins, the altcoins, make up the other 40%, worth ₹120 lakh crore.
From CoinGecko’s global market data, which adds up the market caps of the coins it tracks and gives Bitcoin’s share. Press Get Live Figures to fill in both boxes. Other sites track a different set of coins, so their dominance can differ by a point or two. Your browser asks CoinGecko only when you press the button, and nothing about you is sent.
It depends on what moves. If the whole market stays the same size and dominance falls from 60% to 50%, Bitcoin’s market cap drops to ₹150 lakh crore, 16.67% lower, so its price falls by the same share, from ₹90,00,000 to ₹75,00,000, while the altcoins rise 25%. If Bitcoin stays the same instead, 50% means the whole market grows to ₹360 lakh crore and the altcoins rise 50%, to ₹180 lakh crore. The page shows both.
As a rough guide to where money in crypto is moving. Rising dominance means Bitcoin is doing better than the other coins, often when traders are cautious; falling dominance means the altcoins are doing better. Stablecoins count towards the total, so when people move into them, dominance can change without any coin’s price moving much. It is a description, not a forecast.
The Bitcoin Market Cap Calculator works out Bitcoin’s own market cap from its price and supply, and the price at a bigger market cap. This page compares Bitcoin with the whole crypto market. For a single altcoin, use the Crypto Market Cap Calculator.
No. Whatever share Bitcoin has, a gain on selling any crypto is taxed at a flat 30% plus 4% cess, and a loss on one coin cannot be set off against a gain on another. The Bitcoin Tax Calculator works out the tax on a sale.
